TTH Partners, SSNIT and NHIA Pensioners Telehealth Service

The Trust Hospital Company Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to accessible, patient-centred healthcare through a landmark partnership with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to launch the SSNIT Pensioneer Telehealth Service.

The national initiative, officially launched in Accra, aims to provide pensioners across Ghana with convenient access to healthcare consultations from the comfort of their homes, regardless of their location.

For The Trust Hospital, the partnership is more than a healthcare programme; it is a continuation of the hospital’s longstanding commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.

Speaking at the launch, the Supervising Director of The Trust Hospital Company Limited noted that the hospital embraced the concept immediately after the presentation because it aligned perfectly with the institution’s philosophy of care.

“Our mission has always been to provide compassionate, accessible, and patient-centred healthcare. Therefore, when the opportunity arose to partner on a service designed to improve healthcare access for pensioners, we saw it not merely as a partnership but as an extension of our purpose,” he stated.

For more than three decades, The Trust Hospital has provided healthcare services to families across Ghana, caring for patients from infancy through old age. According to the Supervising Director, the elderly deserve special attention and care in recognition of their contributions to national development.

“The elderly are the pillars upon whose sacrifices our nation has been built. Ensuring that they continue to enjoy quality healthcare in retirement is not only a social responsibility but also a national obligation,” he added.

To ensure the success of the programme, The Trust Hospital has made significant investments in infrastructure, technology, and human resources.

These include the establishment of a dedicated Telehealth Call Centre, the acquisition of a toll-free service to eliminate communication barriers, and extensive training for clinicians, call centre personnel, and support staff on telehealth delivery and the NHIA digital platform.

The Supervising Director explained that every aspect of the service has been carefully designed to provide pensioners with a seamless and professional healthcare experience.

“Every phone call is from a pensioner seeking help, guidance, reassurance or medical advice. We therefore intend to ensure that each interaction is handled with professionalism, empathy, respect and clinical excellence,” he noted.

Through the telehealth platform, pensioners can access medical consultations without travelling long distances to healthcare facilities, making quality healthcare more accessible and convenient than ever before.

The Director-General of SSNIT, Mr. Kwesi Afreh Biney, described the initiative as an important step in enhancing the welfare of pensioners beyond pension administration.

According to him, the telehealth service reflects SSNIT’s commitment to addressing healthcare access challenges and to improving the overall well-being of pensioners.

“Through this intervention, SSNIT pensioners will be able to access remote medical care from the convenience of their homes, irrespective of where they are, in dignity and with respect,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, also emphasised the transformative potential of telehealth in healthcare delivery.

He noted that the service would reduce barriers related to distance, travel, waiting times, and inconvenience, particularly for pensioners managing chronic health conditions or living in remote communities.

As the operational healthcare partner for the initiative, The Trust Hospital has assured pensioners of its readiness to provide timely medical consultations, professional guidance, and responsive support through the telehealth platform.

The service will enable pensioners from every region of Ghana to connect with qualified healthcare professionals through a simple, convenient process, reinforcing the hospital’s vision of bringing quality healthcare closer to those who need it most.

The launch of the SSNIT Pensioneer Telehealth Service marks a significant milestone in healthcare innovation in Ghana and demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when public institutions and healthcare providers collaborate to improve lives.

As Ghana continues to embrace digital healthcare solutions, The Trust Hospital remains proud to be at the forefront of providing innovative, accessible, and compassionate healthcare services for all.
